Widely used both as a herb in cooking, as well as a plant with medicinal properties. Garlic is rich in organ- sulfur compounds, like alicin, which demonstrate heart protective properties. Clinical studies suggest that increased garlic consumption reduces the risk of platelet aggregation, atherosclerosis, high cholesterol and blood pressure. Other indications of garlic include support of the immune system and possible protection against some types of gastrointestinal cancers.
